Yet another award to add to the stack, isn't it? This week at the Nebula awards, George R. R. Martin, Hidetaka Miyazaki, and FromSoftware took home the trophy for Best Game Writing for their work on Elden Ring. The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association, also known as the SFWA, is the organization that bestows the Nebula Awards, which are widely regarded as the most prestigious prize in the field of speculative fiction writing in the English language. It is the first time that Miyazaki and FromSoftware have won the prestigious Nebula Award, but it is Martin's third Nebula win overall. Throughout his career spanning several decades, Martin has been shortlisted for the awards more than a dozen times. His first nomination came in 1973, and he was successful in winning the award for novelettes in 1979 and 1985. Some people have a difficult time understanding Martin's contribution to the Elden Ring. In any case, what exactly did George R. R. Martin do for Elden Ring? For a further explanation as to why, yes, his name should be included on the award. In addition, nominations for the year 2022 included manuscript adventures. Pentiment, cat adventure random, robot-filled adventureHorizon Forbidden West, dead people adventureSins of the Sires for Vampire: The Masquerade and Journeys through the Radiant Citadel, a tabletop adventure book, are both available.
Since 2018, the Nebulas have presented a trophy for the year's best writing in video games. The videogames Supergiant's Hades in 2020, Obsidian's The Outer Worlds in 2019, and House of Tomorrow and Netflix's Black Mirror: Bandersnatch for the inaugural award in 2018 came out ahead of Elden Ring as the previous winners in the category of best videogames. The tabletop roleplaying game Thirsty Sword Lesbians emerged victorious in the 2021 competition. Over the past year, Elden Ring has racked up a pretty significant set of wins, including the title of PC Gamers Game of the Year 2022, as well as raking in wins from places as diverse as the British Academy Game Awards, the DICE Awards, Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards, The Steam Awards, and so on. It has won a lot of awards. It should suffice to say that every person who enjoys Elden Ring does take pleasure in Elden Ring. The Elden Ring Gag Manga Is a Perfect Reflection of the AtmosphereEven the most solemn video games inevitably give rise to a plethora of memes and jokes due to their widespread popularity.
They can involve the absurdity of situations, play with the disconnect between an extremely silly kind of joke and a serious situation, or highlight unintended implications that can arise from certain types of characters. All of these elements can be present. The wonderful thing about the gag manga adaptation of Elden Ring: The Road to the Erdtree is that it pays a loving tribute to the game and keeps a similar kind of dramatic artistic direction while also being completely bonkers and playing with what we already know about the characters. This is what makes the gag manga so great. It reaches all of these notes perfectly, without going over the top in any way. For instance, in the Elden Ring manga, one of the main characters is a Wretched named Aseo, who is a Tarnished and would be chosen by either a very experienced player or someone who is just participating in the game for laughs. It would appear that the second possibility is more accurate, given that the individual's intelligence is quite low, even after Melina has added points to the stat.
He wears a loincloth for the vast majority of the first volume as he goes about his business.
This indicates that there is an ongoing joke about the location where he keeps the vials of his various potions
As some responses involve dashing in headfirst into danger or simply dropping and preparing to die, we are presented with one of the silliest protagonists who is failing upwards in the funniest ways
This is because some reactions involve dashing in headfirst into danger or simply dropping
The fact that Melina and Ranni are portrayed in a much more serious light contributes to the overall excellence of his performance
That doesn't mean that these characters can't also have a sense of humor, though
Both of them come up with some very clever one-liners in the first volume
They are not above stooping to the level of the Tarnished either, even though the way in which they handle their situations gives off the impression of being a more refined or "smarter" version of goofy responses. Their characters, on the other hand, are always portrayed as being extremely refined and darkly elegant, with intelligent and reasonable dialogue. So many times, their responses are precisely what you anticipated they would be based on the circumstances of the game as well as their appearances.
On the other hand, my favourite parts of the manga were the ones in which we got to see one of the series take on a significant happening. During these passages, the characters may appear as you anticipate, and they may even behave in a manner that maintains the same level of gravitas. But then an event occurs that completely alters everything. During one chapter, Kale dispatches the Tarnished to accompany Blaidd on his mission to locate the Bloodhound Knight Darriwil. This interaction is retold from a different point of view for our benefit. While it maintains some of the same beats from before, it introduces new characteristics of personalities and reasons for their actions to inject more humor into the predicament. I thought that everything was resolved in a very professional manner. Especially considering how well Blaidd and Darriwil are portrayed in the midst of all of this other stuff going on. However, this is not a problem that is exclusive to these characters. Everyone who is mentioned in this first volume is given the same amount of attention and care. Even though the Tarnished is the one who causes the most "laughter" around here, when he isn't talking or doing something stupid, he can still look as refined as anyone else.
When reading the first volume of the Elden Ring: The Road to the Erdtree manga, you get the impression that you are watching someone play the game without taking it too seriously. This is because the tone of the manga is lighthearted. You'll have a lot of opportunities to watch the Tarnished "die"! You'll think to yourself, "Yeah, I would be suspicious about asking for their help too," as you ponder the nature of the characters and wonder about their backgrounds. You will begin to question the choices that people make in the world as well as their outlook on various matters. While reading, you can sense the author's affection for the material being read, which elevates the overall quality of the experience and makes it more enjoyable.
